1. Learn the past verb to be (Was / Were) in Turkish.

The suffix for the past verb tenses and "past verb to be" is "-di / dü / dı / du".

• O bir doktor. He is a doctor.
• O bir doktordu. He was a doctor.

If the last vowel of the word is a vowel, the suffix takes the buffer "-y". For example:

• O evli. He is married.
• O evliydi. He was married.

2. Learn how the suffix «di» becomes «ti» sometimes.

If the last letter of the word is "-f / s / t / k / ç / ş / h / p", the past suffix becomes "- ti / tü / tı / tu".

• O bir ağaçtı. It was a tree.
• O bir bebekti. He / She was a baby.
• O bir kitaptı. It was a book.

3. Learn the persons and personal suffixes. Listen.

• Ben bir doktordum. I was a doctor.
• Sen bir doktordun. You were a doctor.
• O bir doktordu. He / She was a doctor.

4. Make basic sentences.

1. O / öğrenci O bir öğrenciydi.
2. O / futbolcu
3. O / çok hasta
4. O / evli
5. Film / güzel
